The AFT Computer Vision team is applying computer vision, image processing, and augmented reality to solve real-world business problems for Amazon. Our group works with peers and customers on a nimble, cross-functional team to deploy computer-vision-powered process improvement to Amazon facilities worldwide. Our team collaborates with a variety of customers across Amazon worldwide, to conceive, develop, prototype and deploy a wide range of systems. We are currently developing detection, recognition, and augmented reality solutions for our next generation fulfillment centers. Our team develops both hardware and software prototypes and carries them through to large scale deployments.

As a computer vision engineer, you will work closely with our research staff to develop efficient production quality software for large scale deployment. Software will be a combination of computer vision, image processing, tracking and machine learning software, as well as underlying functionality such as services, infrastructure, and database.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing computer vision applications, familiarity with OpenCV, and other toolkits, and is comfortable building production quality software. A person that thrives on the challenge of solving new problems, and is motivated to see their software deployed to solve real-world problems on a large scale. Experience with SLAM is a plus.
In this role, you will visit Amazon fulfillment centers to observe processes and brainstorm computer-vision-aided applications to improve them. You will determine where commercially available solutions and academic research can be applied robustly to solve Amazon business problems, as well as identify opportunities for innovation. You will help develop a comprehensive data set for computer vision and machine learning.

• MS or PhD in Computer Science or related field, with specialty in computer vision
• Clear understanding and ability to implement algorithms in computer vision using both toolkits and self developed code
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Understanding of OO design.
• C++ and Java programming skills.
• 1 year of post-graduate experience in academic or industry environment in one or more of the following areas: computer vision, image recognition, augmented reality
• Familiarity with data structures, algorithms and complexity analysis
• Ability to convert research code to optimized processing code
• Ability to develop novel solutions using a combination of technologies based on engineering requirements.
• Code-level familiarity with Simultaneous Location and Tracking technology.
