Organizational Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the Office of the Director of the Outreach Division, Department of Public Information (DPI). The incumbent reports to the Secretary of the Exhibits Committee/Chief of the Exhibits Unit at UN Headquarters.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Exhibits Production Coordinator is responsible for the design, production, and installation of temporary multimedia exhibits on UN priority issues approved by the United Nations Exhibits Committee for display in public areas at UN Headquarters. Specific duties are as follows:
  • Liaises with exhibitors and with external parties involved in the production and installation of exhibitions;
  • Provides technical and creative advice to exhibitors on the design, layout, production, and installation options and cost;
  • If needed, creates the exhibit design, prepares the portfolio for printing (image sizing, photo editing, such as retouching, color correction, restoration, image enhancement, etc), and oversees the production work of printers, laminators, mounters, and audio/visual specialists;
  • Installs the exhibitions and supervises the work of other crew members;
  • Budgets costs for each exhibit and ensures the satisfactory completion of each project on deadline and within budget;
  • Advises on the selection of service providers specialized on the production of exhibitions and prepares bidding requisitions;
  • Maintains professional relationships with key constituencies, namely exhibitors, external consultants and crews working on production and installation, Permanent Missions and UN offices involved with the organization of exhibits, including Facilities Management and Security and Safety;
  • Provides technical advice and support to exhibit installations on the Guided Tour Route at Headquarters;
  • Contributes to researching content and developing proposals for the Department of Public Information's travelling exhibitions. As required, assists the Secretary of the Exhibits Committee in conceptualizing UN system partners' exhibit ideas;
  • Supervises the work of junior staff, external consultants and crew.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communications, fine arts, design, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Public Information, Communications, or related area is required. Experience in the graphic, video and interactive arts and their use in the production of three-dimensional exhibits is required. Hands-on experience designing, producing and installing exhibits is required. Experience with informative exhibitions on social issues displaying images and texts is desirable. Experience as a printer is an advantage.
Languages
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise that may be followed by a competency based interview.
