he IRC's public policy and advocacy efforts seek to improve the lives of people affected by persecution, disasters, and conflict by influencing the policy decisions affecting them and improving the practice of humanitarian action. Our efforts capitalize on IRC's presence in strategic locations, including resettlement offices in more than 20 US cities, field sites in 40 countries, regional hubs around the world, and offices in Washington, New York, London, Brussels, and Geneva. The Director will report to the Vice President for Public Policy & Advocacy and will be based in New York.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Director, UN Humanitarian Affairs is responsible for developing and carrying out a coherent policy vision and approach to deliberations on the UN Security Council and the UN Secretariat agencies (Secretary-General's Office, Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and Department of Peacekeeping) that represent the views of IRC staff in the field and the beneficiaries that we serve. The Director will also represent IRC's views with the UN Specialized Agencies, UN ECOSOC Humanitarian Segment, and the UN General Assembly's Humanitarian Coordination pillar. The Director for UN Humanitarian Affairs works under the supervision and direction of the Vice President for IRC Public Policy & Advocacy. The work of this vital role will be done in close coordination with the advocacy efforts undertaken by IRC offices in Washington, DC, London, Geneva, Brussels and relevant IRC field offices. This position w ill require occasional travel to Washington, DC and assigned travel to various domestic and international locations.
